This post has been updated to reflect the exciting changes at Dark Moon Coffee Roasters, including expanded seating, new food offerings, and their cold brew now available in Sprouts and Whole Foods!
It’s not every day that a new local coffee roaster opens in town, especially in the Las Vegas area. I had my eye on Dark Moon Coffee Roasters for a while—just three miles from my home—watching the anticipation build as their sign went up. When they finally announced their opening on Instagram and Facebook, I was ecstatic. All I knew was that it was a new local spot that roasted its own coffee. Little did I know how much character and innovation Dark Moon was bringing to the Vegas coffee scene.
I first visited after watching an uplifting barista story on Goal Cast and was eager to experience a new place. If you’ve seen the video I’m talking about, the barista I encountered that day—Eric—definitely pours happiness into every cup. Keep reading to find out how Dark Moon has grown and evolved since then.

Dark Moon and Craft Coffee
Craft coffee has been gaining momentum, blending freshly roasted beans (often fair trade and organic certified) with the expertise of passionate baristas. Coffee becomes more than just a drink—it’s an experience, from the origin of the beans to the art of brewing and the connections made across the counter. Dark Moon Coffee Roasters embodies this philosophy—and so much more.
Located in southeast Henderson, Dark Moon’s space has only improved over time. Originally designed with an industrial-chic aesthetic, the café was already a cozy yet modern space for coffee lovers. Since moving their roaster to a separate warehouse, they’ve gained even more seating, making it a comfortable spot for everything from solo work sessions to coffee dates. Plus, without the roaster in-house, the café is much quieter—making it an even better place to soak in the experience.
It’s All in the Details

What Kyle and Mark Porterfield, Dark Moon’s owners, originally envisioned was an immersive coffee experience—and they’ve kept true to that vision while expanding.
The open barista station remains a standout feature. Instead of a massive espresso machine taking over the counter, Dark Moon was the first in Nevada to incorporate the Modbar steam module—a sleek, under-counter system that saves space and fosters conversation. It’s an experience reminiscent of a craft cocktail bar (but with coffee), allowing customers to interact freely with baristas without the barrier of bulky equipment.
Another exciting change? Their food offerings have expanded significantly. While they always had a few pastries on hand, they’ve now introduced a broader selection of pastries and heartier food options that can be heated up, making it a true café experience rather than just a coffee stop.
And for those who can’t always make it into the shop, Dark Moon has taken its cold brew game to the next level. They’ve expanded their cold brew distribution into Sprouts and Whole Foods, making it easier than ever to get a taste of their expertly brewed coffee at home.
Dark Moon Brightens the Coffee Scene in Henderson, NV
Conversations with a Barista
The order counter is placed just a few steps from the entrance, inviting you into the experience right away. To the right, a thoughtfully curated retail section features cups, mugs, shirts, and hats, while a pastry case—now stocked with an expanded selection—tempts you to grab a snack.
On my first visit, I ordered a Nitro Cold Brew, and Eric, the barista, turned my order into a full-on conversation. We talked about the roaster, the beans they use for nitro, and the Las Vegas coffee scene. This is the kind of coffee shop where baristas don’t just take your order—they engage, educate, and make you feel like a regular from day one.
What’s the Verdict?
Yes. Yes. And absolutely, yes.
From day one, Dark Moon has been dedicated to both coffee and community, and their recent expansions only solidify their place as one of my favorite coffee shops in the Las Vegas area. The added seating, expanded food offerings, and cold brew distribution make them more accessible than ever while maintaining their core mission of crafting an unforgettable coffee experience.
