•

Looking for the best coffee in Boulder City, NV? Check out my Dam Roast House review to see why this cozy café is a local favorite. Tucked away in the heart of historic downtown Boulder City, Dam Roast House & Browder Bookstore serves up great vibes, friendly service, and some great coffee. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, this Dam Roast House review will show you why this place is a must-visit. The coffee shop is combined with a local independent bookstore, highlighting local authors and New York Times Bestsellers all in one place. The book nook is pretty cool and adds to the charm of the experience.

I came to the Dam Roast House in 2021 after they opened and did not enjoy their cold brew. It wasn’t very pleasant, and it tasted like charcoal, signaling it was over-roasted. I couldn’t finish the drink, throwing it away after a few sips. Chalking it up to being a new coffee shop, I let the after-opening jitters wear off, but still had reservations about visiting again.

Fast forward to July 2024. After hearing great things about Dam Roast House, I decided to give it another shot. The owners are great community partners, working with other businesses to produce micro-events, scavenger hunts, and supporting small businesses that don’t have a brick-and-mortar. Plus, it’s been over three years since they opened so they must be doing something right.

Upon walking in, I was pleasantly greeted by a gentleman behind the counter. The place was bright and cheery, a bit loud from the musician who was there playing, but that’s the vibe here so I went with it. I ordered a Maker’s Mint drink, described on their menu as “Espresso, turbinado sugar, muddled mint & whole milk. Just like the makers of the Hoover Dam, we’ve created something extraordinary.” My mint-loving mind went directly to this drink and so I placed my order. I also order avocado toast because who doesn’t love that?

My Maker’s Mint was AH-mazing and I would order it again. A subtle twist on the boozy mint mojito, this was a truly unique and delicious coffee drink. I substituted oat milk for the whole milk and it did not disappoint. It was creamy, minty and refreshing. The espresso was light as was the mint which did not overpower the drink. The sweetness was just enough to balance out the entire drink. When I ordered, I was asked it it was for here to to-go and since I was staying to check out the bookstore, I opted for a glass. (one more tick for reducing their carbon footprint!) Overall I give this drink a 5/5 for freshness, simplicity, and creativity.

Dam Roast House review of the food

The All Mashed Up Avocado Toast was some of the best I’ve had. If there wasn’t a whole avocado smashed on the toast, I would be surprised. Placed on a thick slice of local organic bread, avocado, cherry tomatoes, and feta sit delicately topped with a balsamic glaze and locally grown micro greens. Definitely NOT an on-the-go option as it is something to be savored with a fork and knife. The one thing I appreciate is the use of locally sourced ingredients and Dam Roast House tries to do just that. If they can find it locally, they’ll use it. The All Mashed Up was filling, satisfying, and a great choice if you’re a avocado toast connoisseur.

Oh! I can’t forget about the bookstore! The Browder Bookstore is located within the Dam Roast House and features local authors as well as New York Times Best Sellers. They have a great variety of books, from self-help to fiction and non-fiction. They often have book signings and “meet the author” events so make sure to follow their Facebook page for the details. If you love coffee and you love books, then you’ll love Dam Roast House & Browder Bookstore! You also will love showing your coffee & books addiction with this t-shirt!

Overall my visit was much better than the first. The coffee was delightful, the food was delicious and satisfying, and the service was impeccable. The only thing to note is because the dining area is narrow, it tends to get loud with music so my advice if there is music, enjoy the music but maybe sit outside if you want to have a conversation. I was enjoying my drink and food solo while listening to the featured artist so it was nice background music.

Dam Roast House & Browder Bookstore is a must visit if you’re a local or a visitor. There are several tours including the National Park Express that stop in Boulder City or if you’re a local, a day trip can be filled with hiking, Big Horn Sheep at Hemenway Park, or a stroll down the Historic District.
