Almond & Oat Coffee House

It’s Sunday and since I work during the week, I thought this weekend was the perfect time to stop at one of Las Vegas’s newest coffee shops; Almond & Oat Coffee House. My list of coffee house stops was growing and it was time to lay out a plan, however many of the ones on my list were 40 mins or more away and today was not a day I wanted to travel across the city.

I had intended to stop at Almond & Oat a few months ago, however, they are relatively new and I always wait a bit so the new business can work out the kinks. There should have been no doubt as the owner is the same that owns my other favorite coffee house, The Coffee Class. Since first visiting The Coffee Class, they have opened a new location and yet another under this new brand.

Where is it located

Almond & Oat Coffee House is located on St Rose Parkway and Spencer. This area has become more developed over the years and the original location was another coffee shop that struggled and eventually closed. I did visit the previous coffee shop where Almond & Oat is currently located and I was not impressed. My memory says the service was sub-par and the coffee was incredibly sweet and bitter. But I digress.

This location is perfect for Almond & Oat Coffee House. The area is bustling now with traffic, a salon next door where a previous dry cleaner was, and a very busy auto care store. Both the salon and the auto care service bring in clients, however, Almond & Oat can survive on its own.

What is on the menu

The layout is similar to the old coffee shop that used to occupy the space. But the menu is much simpler. It hangs on the wall behind the counter and is written clearly on a chalkboard. Specialty lattes, tea lattes, frozen lattes, and iced teas make up the menu and of course, you can always get a pour-over or freshly brewed coffee. The simple menu makes it easy to choose and not get overwhelmed.

My daughter and I each ordered a drink; she ordered the Honey Lavender Latte while I ordered their Almond & Oat Latte (of course), both iced. We also ordered a mixed berry strudel to share. Both drinks were a delicate balance of coffee, creaminess, and sweetness with the right amount of ice. The sweetness did not overpower the deliciously bold and smooth espresso and the oat milk on each provided the right amount of creaminess to the drink.

If you’ve never had a lavender-flavored drink, this one is the perfect one to measure to all the rest. Many I’ve had before are either too heavy, like you’re drinking the fresh cut flowers, or not enough and you’re begging to find the lavender notes. This one? Nope. Honey was the first taste to hit your palette and the lavender was the delicate finish at the back end, just enough to give you that slight florally note.

My almond & oat drink was a slightly sweet, nutty, concoction with a hint of cinnamon on the front. The oat milk created a creamy, earthy finish and the espresso was bold and flavorful. As my daughter said “this is a 10/10” and I would 100 percent agree.

The mixed berry strudel was delightful. The pastry was flaky and buttery, the mixed berries were bright and creamy thanks to a slightly sweet cream cheese filling. We decided it was the best pastry we had ever taken a bite of and I can’t wait to go back and try some of their savory options, like an everything bagel strudel with cream cheese filling or the breakfast strudel with eggs, bacon, and creamed spinach. We did inquire about allergies as my daughter has a nut allergy and these were all clear!

How is the overall experience

As my daughter said, Almond & Oat Coffee House was a 10/10. The service was EXCELLENT, as a matter of fact, Kyle the owner jumped up from his seat in the dining area to help his counterperson. He was right there to help her answer the allergy question we had and was in the thick of preparing food and drinks if needed. Everyone had a sense of urgency to help customers and it showed. Each of the baristas had a smile on their face and was genuinely happy to serve customers.

The seating area is a bit tight, however, they have made it a bit more comfortable with the addition of a comfortable sofa being used as a booth-type bench. The sofa allows for at least 2-3 people of different parties to sit and enjoy their coffee at a small table. There are also 2 four-top tables to accommodate larger groups and convenient outside seating to enjoy the outdoors. Along one wall there is a bar top for sitting as well along with plugins to enjoy their free wifi. The decor is minimalistic, welcoming, calming, and simple which makes it an enjoyable place to enjoy your coffee and pastries.

Overall, we will be returning to Almond & Oat Coffee House. I had high expectations because of being so fond of The Coffee Class, and they did not disappoint. Thank you Kyle and team for such a great experience!
