Finding a good travel mug can be challenging so I sought out to see just how good the Brümate hot toddy kept coffee hot and if it was worth the money.

Something that comes along with being a regular coffee drinker is not only a horrendous mug collection, but also ALL the travel mugs. Back in the olden days, or rather before 2020, I worked mostly outside my home in a bank branch or an office. I’ve been with Wells Fargo for over 20 years so I’ve seen my fair share of travel cups for my daily habit.
Finding a good travel mug is a struggle because of several things; you need it to be spill proof, drip proof, keep your coffee as hot as possible for as long as possible, and most importantly it needs to fit in the cup holders of your car. Well friends, I think I found one.
How I Found Brümate Hot Toddy
If you’re on Facebook, ads aren’t anything new. For a free platform, ads are really the only way businesses can reach users. Anyhow, Brümate had always popped up in my newsfeed, however it was always stainless wine cups. I would check their website regularly for any sign of coffee mugs and would come up with nothing every time. I mean I do love wine and cocktails, but I don’t drink them as regularly as coffee. And any product that I can find that keeps my coffee HOT for longer than 30 minutes, I need to try.
One day, my friend Jamie tags me in sponsored ad for the Brümate Hot Toddy line. I bought one quicker than I could respond and so the review of the Brümate Hot Toddy begins.
Ordering the Brümate
The website is super easy to navigate, even on mobile. There is a gazillion colors to choose from and I chose charcoal glitter. The variety of colors was nice because ANYONE will be able to find a color they love. Checkout was just as easy; they accept PayPal, ShopNow, and Amazon Pay. I chose PayPal because who knows their debit or credit card numbers? Yeah, I know they exist, but I LOVE the convenience of paying through Apple Pay or PayPal. Technology advancements making payments easier are just amazing.
Time in Shipment
The speed of shipping Brümate commits to is 1-2 business days from the date of order. I honestly was expecting delays because COVID, however it did in fact ship THE NEXT DAY. Yay Brümate! I placed my order on March 10 and it was delivered on March 16, a day ahead of the projected delivery. Yay Fedex! So if you need a quick gift and need it shipped quickly, they don’t mess around.
Eco-friendly Packaging
The Hot Toddy mug arrived in a padded black package contained in a sturdy circular box. Like a protective hat or bag box, the Brümate box is almost too pretty to throw away! (FYI, it’s still sitting on my dining room table so if you have any ideas on what to do with it, share it in the comments!)
When I opened the box, the mug was wrapped in bubble wrap and a compostable bag, visually marked “compostable material”. Again, yay Brümate for being great environmental stewards! It also was securely nestled inside the box in a shadow box to prevent shifting. Overall, the minimalistic shipping was not only environmentally friendly, but also something I could fully recycle if I need to ship or mail something.
How Does the Brümate Hot Toddy Work
The 16 ounce mug, dubbed the Hot Toddy, comes with a screw top lid with a seal. The great thing about the lid is that it can be fitted for right or left handers. The lid also has a locking mechanism on the mouth cover to lock the cover in place. Once opened, the mouth cover magnetizes when in the open position so it stays in place. The other awesome thing about this Brümate Hot Toddy mug is it is the perfect size for a pour over.
While the mug is a 16 ounce size, you won’t want to fill the mug more than to the first notch for the lid. Trust me.

Did the Coffee Stay Hot?
In short, yes. After 4 hours, my coffee was just getting lukewarm. I didn’t take the actual temperature, but I was able to enjoy hot to warm coffee for almost 3.5 hours. My normal coffee goes warm after about 20 minutes depending on the size of the mug I’m using. I am a strict coffee brewer at 195 degrees so my coffee is piping hot when it’s brewed directly into my cup. You can also fill your Hot Toddy with hot water prior to filling with coffee so your cup is pre-heated. This will help keep the temperature up longer.
I haven’t tested the Brümate Hot Toddy with an iced drink. If I were to use one for iced coffee or cold brew, I would use the 20 ounce pint insulated cup. For me, the 20 ounce size is more my style when drinking an iced drink.
Would I Buy Again?
Absolutely, in fact, I’m considering buying their can coolers for soda and beer bottles during the summer. Living in the desert, your drinks get warm very quickly when outside. They also have various cocktail cups like martini, pints, and flasks. Brümate’s stainless steel material makes these friendly in no-glass zones, like resort pools, or even your own backyard. We will definitely buy a set of some of them to have in our backyard this summer!

**Disclaimer** This is not an official Brümate website so if your experience has been different than mine, please let Brümate know. While I appreciate and welcome comments, there is absolutely nothing I can do if your coffee became colder quicker. Keep in mind that if you’re using an automatic coffee maker, your brewing temperature may not be as hot as mine.

Just got one of these for Christmas. Never heard of it. I wanted to see what people thought. Saw this opinion. I’m excited. My drive to work is 40 minutes…..I dislike cold coffee…I’m ready to try this. Thanks Espresso Explorer.
Yay! I’m excited for you! I love my Brumate collection! I used the hot toddy the other day for work and I still had warm coffee after 3 hours at my office.
Brumate’s Hot Coffee Mug is one of my best winter purchases which I use every day. I also want to recommend this product to every coffee lover.
I thought it was pretty good quality too! Thanks for stopping by!
Does the stainless steel interior change the coffee flavor in any way?
Hi Kim! I have not found that the stainless steel makes the coffee taste any different. This would be true for wine, however with Brumate, I haven’t found that to be an issue at all. I have used their new 22 oz Toddy and 32 oz Toddy for hot and cold coffee beverages and haven’t noticed any metal taste. Hope that helps!
Not at all. Ive had my toddy for over a year. It looks brand new, I use it every day. Best thing is the non spill feature. First mug I’ve had that actually does this. I am able to drink hot coffee hours after it’s made – eg not permitted to drink on the train so just throw it in my bag and drink an hour later when I get to work. Gives me my lovely home made coffee and I save a fortune in not buying coffee every day. PS. I have a fund that I save all the money I WOULD have spent on a daily coffee and this is how I go on an overseas holiday every year despite being a very average earner.
That’s awesome Bridget! Thanks for sharing your experience!
It sounds like you like this. Does it make cold brew like a toddy pot?
No. This is a travel mug so it’s not a coffee maker. They call it a Toddy because of the type of beverage it holds, kinda like a hot toddy.
